10th Annual Parkside Tour of Homes
Sunday, May 18, 2008, 11:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Only once a year is the public afforded an opportunity to view the
interior of the stately homes surrounding Delaware Park. On Sunday,
May 18, 2008 from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, Parkside homeowners will
again tap into their rich and diverse architectural history for the Ninth
Annual Parkside Tour of Homes, sponsored by the Parkside Community
Association. Enjoy an inside look at beautiful distinct homes in the
historic neighborhood. Homeowners supported by
knowledgeable docents will walk you through these unique Buffalo
treasures.
The tour starts at the Church of the Good Shepherd, on the corner of Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue. Information, tickets, and maps will be available at the start of the tour. Tickets are $13 in advance, $15 the day of the tour, and $11 for PCA members. A mini tour of the Darwin Martin House is included in the ticket price. This includes the new pergola, conservatory, and carriage house. Advance tickets can be obtained by visiting the PCA office, 2318 Main St. in Buffalo or by calling the office at 838-1240 during regular business hours. Proceeds benefit the continuing work of the Parkside Community Association. No children under the age of twelve, please. Event is held rain or shine.
The Parkside Community Association is Buffalo’s oldest, largest and
most active neighborhood associations in the City of Buffalo. The
Parkside area contains superb examples of such diverse architectural
styles such as the American Four Square, Victorian, Queen Anne,
Craftsman, and the Arts & Crafts bungalow. The 1880 thru 1930
building period includes designs by prominent local architects E.B.
Green and William Sydney Wicks.
Parkside is adjacent to Frederick Law Olmsted’s Delaware Park,
The Buffalo Zoo, and the Main-Amherst business district.
11th Annual Parkside
Garden Tour
Sunday, June 22th, 2008 10:00 to 4:00pm.
As a counterpoint to Buffalo's undeserved reputation for almost year-round winters, Queen City natives have traditionally had a keen interest in gardening. To celebrate the glorious Eden that is Buffalo summer, the Parkside Community Association is sponsoring its 11th Annual Garden Tour on Sunday, June 22, 2008, from 10 AM to 4 PM. This self guided tour is a great opportunity to see outdoor city living at its best. The Garden Tour starts in the heart of Parkside, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, on the corner of Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue, right across from Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin Martin House complex. Information and maps will be available the day of the tour. Over 50 gardens will be displayed, from modest rock gardens to meticulous front-to-back landscaping. A $5 donation to the PCA is encouraged and appreciated.
Parkside is a Frederick Law Olmsted designed neighborhood and is adjacent to the Buffalo Zoo and Delaware Park. The well maintained turn-of-the-century Victorian and Arts and Crafts homes provide a picturesque accent while enjoying the Garden Tour. Parkside is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
